In the Declaration of Independence are 35 simple words that have served as my guiding principle throughout my years of public service. Follow them, and you will never go wrong in whatever path you choose:
During World War II, as a young soldier, I witnessed first-hand the bloody sacrifices of my comrades in the 442nd Infantry Regimental Combat Team who were fighting for, and in many instances dying for, the same nation that held their loved ones in virtual prison camps. I returned home from the war with a resolve to do all that I could to bring justice to those Japanese Americans who were unjustly mistreated by our nation. And, so began my public service career.
