Mass Transit

Investing in high-speed rail will create jobs, revitalize domestic manufacturing, and alleviate congestion, all while improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.  In fact, Minnesota is already moving ahead with high-speed rail.  The Northstar Commuter Rail Line has begun operations between the Twin Cities and Big Lake, with plans to extend the line to St. Cloud.  Other regional rail initiatives have proposed lines connecting Duluth to Minneapolis and Minneapolis to Chicago.  In order to make these plans a reality, Minnesota needs additional support from the federal government.  Senator Franken supports additional federal support for high-speed rail, and continues to work in the Senate to make that happen.
