Congressman Peter Welch is trying to help veterans get back to work.

Tuesday, the U.S. House approved a bill Welch introduced two years ago. Welch says the Military Transition Program would provide on-the-job training for unemployed or under-employed veterans who are not eligible for training or education benefits. They say it can be tough for war veterans to transition back to the workforce. The measure will benefit both National Guard soldiers and members of the U.S. armed forces.

"And it's a partnership-- on a pilot program basis-- that'll be $10 million a year where the employer who is taking in a service person who's now disconnected from the military and giving the opportunity to get employment training towards a long-term career job," said Welch, D-Vermont.

Welch's legislation is included in a larger bill which now heads to the Senate.
