Washington, Aug 24 -

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) is pleased to announce a grant award from the Department of Transportation to SunLine Transit Agency.  The $813,580 grant will help SunLine purchase a replacement bus for better fuel efficiency and research fuel cell technology. The Congresswoman has been a strong supporter of SunLine’s innovative work in alternative fuels for many years.

“These federal dollars are investments into the transit system of Coachella Valley--enhancing passenger safety and increasing fuel efficiency.   During these tough economic times, when cities’ budgets are shrinking, funding to special programs, such as expanding alternative fuel technology, would go un-funded,” commented Bono Mack.  “SunLine Transit Agency is a model for clean public transportation nationwide.  It is important to keep investing and improving upon the safety and fuel efficiencies of our transportation systems.”

The SunLine Transit Agency of Coachella Valley will fund three projects for the total of $813,580.  The projects are to purchase a replacement bus for paratransit and research in fuel cell technology.

“Throughout the years, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack has been a strong advocate of the Agency in providing cutting edge, environmentally friendly public transit to the Valley. She has been the driving force behind obtaining funds for all facets of transportation from the purchase of paratransit vehicles, to the new Agency Administration building, as well as, the hydrogen fuel cell program,” expressed C. Mikel Oglesby, General Manager of SunLine Transit Agency.
