Washington, Oct 16, 2009 - Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) today announced that the City of Hemet will receive a federal grant to support energy efficiency and create local green jobs. The funding, in the amount of $670,500, was awarded through the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program, a competitive grant aimed to help cities take advantage of new clean energy technologies.

“These federal dollars will support local efforts to expand clean energy technologies and create new green jobs for our community,” said Bono Mack. “Expanding clean energy use and improving efficiency will help put us on the path of becoming more energy independent, while protecting the quality of the air we breathe. I am pleased that the City of Hemet has been awarded this grant that will benefit the entire region.”

Under DOE’s EECBG Program, funds are awarded to help communities improve their energy efficiency, reduce their energy use and fossil fuel emissions, and create local green jobs.

Projects eligible for EECBG funding include energy audits and building retrofits in the residential and commercial sector, the development and implementation of advanced building codes and inspections, and the creation of financial incentive programs for energy efficiency improvements.
