Library of Congress exhibit starts tomorrow in Twinsburg

U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette (R-OH) will welcome a traveling exhibit from the world-renowned Library of Congress Friday morning at the Twinsburg Public Library.

A welcome ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, October 8, at the library at 10050 Ravenna Road in Twinsburg.  The traveling "Gateway to Knowledge" exhibition will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, and Saturday, Oct. 9.  There is no cost to visit the exhibit.

The "Gateway to Knowledge" exhibition, mounted in a custom 18-wheel truck, is visiting states across the Midwest and South, and is visiting Twinsburg at the Congressman's request.

"The Library of Congress is a national treasure and I'm delighted to welcome the traveling exhibition to Twinsburg," LaTourette said.  "Those who visit will see everything from copies of treasures like Jefferson's draft of the Declaration of Independence with edits by Benjamin Franklin and John Adams to original 1962 drawings from the first Spiderman comic book."

The traveling exhibit was recently on the Mall in Washington, DC, as part of the National Book Festival.   The Library of Congress was founded in 1800 and is the country's oldest federal cultural institution.

LaTourette thanked Librarian of Congress James H. Billington for sharing the Library with Twinsburg, and noted that the Library's Veterans History Project earlier visited the district to collect veterans' stories.  After the Twinsburg visit, the exhibit will head to Oberlin College and Troy, OH.  Its first Ohio stop was in Marietta.
