Sen. Franken Lauds Federal Crackdown of Alcoholic Energy Drinks

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Today, U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) praised the news that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) intends to crack down on caffeinated beverages that contain alcohol. Sen. Franken recently sent a letter to FDA Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg urging her to issue a formal policy regarding the drinks, citing recent evidence that the combination of alcohol and caffeine can have serious damaging effects.

"In light of evidence of their harmful effects, I ask that you issue a formal policy regarding caffeine levels in alcoholic beverages," Sen. Franken wrote in the letter.
