Mental Health Parity Regulations
Ensuring Minnesotans have access to mental health services is a top priority for Senator Franken. The late Senator Paul Wellstone was a strong advocate to ensure mental health services be a basic part of insurance policies. The Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 requires group health plans to cover mental health and substance abuse services at the same level that medical and surgical benefits are covered. Since his first weeks in the Senate, Senator Franken has played a lead oversight role to ensure proper implementation of the parity law for all Minnesotans and all Americans.
