Sending greetings and care packages

Congressman Cooper's Valentines for Veterans 

Congressman Cooper invites school classes, Scout troops, youth groups and individuals to make their own Valentines for Middle Tennessee veterans and troops serving overseas.

Operation Dear Abby 

This site allows visitors to send email greetings to service members.  

Defend America 
This link provides a form to send thanks to the U.S. Military. 

Operation USO Care Package 
Visitors can send a care package to service members overseas by making a donation. 

Adopt-a-Platoon 
This organization allows visitors to make a contribution to help link families, pen-pals, private companies, corporations, civic groups and other organizations such as American Legions, VFW's, schools, synagogues, churches, scouts, and 4-H Clubs to entire platoons serving overseas. 

Operation Military Pride 
Visitors can contact this organization to support the distribution of letters and care packages to troops. Operation Military Pride also links citizens with specific soldiers one-on-one.

Helping service members stay in touch with their families

Operation Uplink 
Sends prepaid calling cards to servicemembers so they can call home. 

Freedom Calls Foundation 
Links soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan with their loved ones back home through teleconferencing.

Assisting wounded troops

U.S. Army  

The most needed item is calling cards of any amount for wounded soldiers recovering at Walter Reed Hospital to call their families:

U.S. Navy and
U.S. Marine Corps 

Wounded marines and naval personnel need a variety of items while recovering. These items include:  

  • Top Request: Carry-on luggage with wheels 
  • Packaged men's underwear - sizes 30-36; boxer shorts are preferred
  • Snap-leg nylon warm-up pants
  • Long gym shorts with draw strings
  • Zip-front sweatshirts
  • Packaged toiletry items: shaving cream, aftershave, deodorant, soap, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.
  • DVD's, videos, popular music CD's
  • Play Station X-Box games

Donating airline miles to families of hopitalized soldiers

Delta Airlines 
SkyMiles members can donate miles to help families of hospitalized soldiers with their travel needs. The minimum donation is 5,000 miles. Northwest Airlines   WorldPerks members may donate miles by calling 1-800-327-2881. Have your account and PIN numbers ready. The minimum donation is 5,000 miles. 

Southwest Airlines 

Rapid Rewards members may donate free tickets they have earned. Award Tickets must be valid for at least two months. Rapid Rewards Members' names and personal information will be removed from the Award Ticket. Tickets can be sent to the address below or call 1-800-445-5764.
