Internships

Washington D.C. Internships

In my Washington, D.C. office, internships run throughout the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Although all internships are unpaid, students gain invaluable work experience. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' hectic course schedules, but generally run 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. when Congress is in session, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. when not in session.

Responsibilities will vary.  Interns will be asked to answer phones, run errands, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings, and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House.  As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.

We are currently accepting applications for Summer 2010.  This is an ideal opportunity for students and recent graduates interested in learning about the legislative process, passionate about serving a diverse constituency, and committed to public service.  Ideal candidates are mature, detail-oriented and motivated.  Applicants should also possess an ability to prioritize multiple tasks under tight deadlines, work well with others, and have a good sense of humor.  Bilingual Spanish and Mandarin speakers are encouraged to apply.

Interested candidates should submit a resume, cover letter detailing interest in working for my office, and a one to two page writing sample to ca32.internapp@mail.house.gov.  Please include dates and times of availability.  Application Deadline is April 16, 2010.  No walk-ins or phone calls please.
