Places to See and Interesting Facts:
The county seat of Des Moines County is Burlington, Iowa. It is one of Iowa's two original counties along with Dubuque County; both were organized by the Michigan Territorial legislature in 1834. The United States flag was raised for the first time on Iowa Territory in Burlington in 1805 by Lt. Zebulon Pike.
