Sens. Klobuchar, Franken Announce $25 Million Federal Loan for Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association
Today, U.S. Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken (D-Minn.) announced that a $25 million loan will go to the Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association, which provides electric service to large parts of Wright and Hennepin Counties. The funds will be used to build 144 miles of new distribution line, make improvements to 54 miles of existing distribution line, and make other system improvements. The loan will be funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service.
"Reliable electricity is critical to our homes and businesses," said Sen. Klobuchar. "These funds will help rural electric cooperatives serve new households and also ensure that Minnesotans continue to have access to affordable, dependable electric power."
"People all over Minnesota depend on the reliable service of rural electric cooperatives to power their homes, farms, and businesses," said Sen. Franken. "This loan will allow the Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association to expand its network and to continue to provide the excellent level of service Minnesotans expect and deserve."
The Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association is based in Rockford and serves more than 45,000 electric accounts in Wright County and the western part of Hennepin County.
