Wall Street Journal: "Enbridge Pressured By Lawmakers, Enviros Over Mich. Spill"
Today, the Washington Post covered the controversy surrounding the Enbridge oil spill in Michigan. Sen. Franken called for the investigation into Enbridge and its liability in the spill:
Canadian pipeline company Enbridge Inc. (ENB, ENB.T) estimates that a crude oil spill into Michigan's Kalamazoo River will cost it at least between $35 million and $45 million. But it's also earning the company a volley of criticism from public officials and environmentalists.
The National Transportation Safety Board is still investigating the cause of the spill. It will be 12 to 18 months before the task is complete.
But some lawmakers and environmentalists are already alleging the Calgary-based pipeline company was at fault for inadequately maintaining the burst pipeline, which leaked an estimated 820,000 gallons of crude oil into the river...
In the Senate, Democratic senator Al Franken of Minnesota also said Enbridge should be investigated. "Enbridge has an unacceptable safety record for its pipelines, and Minnesota has been directly impacted by it in the past," he said in a release.
