Biodiesel
Senator Franken strongly supports a long-term extension of the biodiesel tax credit, which expired at the end of 2009. In Minnesota alone, biodiesel production contributes $928 million per year to the economy and employs 5,500 workers. The biodiesel tax credit is essential for the day to day operations of Minnesota biodiesel producers, and many Minnesota jobs will be lost if the credit permanently expires. Most biodiesel production facilities in Minnesota continue to operate, but they are doing so at a significantly reduced rate.
A long-term, retroactive extension of the biodiesel tax credit has been included in several tax-extender packages, and Senator Franken will continue to push for quick enactment of this tax credit extension to support this important industry in Minnesota.
