US Senator Orrin Hatch
District of Columbia House Voting Rights Act of 2009

The right to participate in electing those who govern us is the most precious right available in a free country. Utah learned how precious this right is when they were robbed of a fourth Congressional seat after the 2000 Census. That’s why I support the District of Columbia House Voting Rights Act, which would provide Utah with a fourth seat in the House of Representatives and a House seat with full voting rights to the District of Columbia.

Some have questioned whether Congress has the authority under the Constitution to provide a seat in the House of Representatives to the District by legislation. I am convinced that it does.
