CONGRESSMAN BRAD ELLSWORTH

As the 8th District's Congressman, Brad Ellsworth is continuing his career-long commitment to put Hoosiers first. In Congress, he is a member of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition and is working to reduce waste, fraud and abuse of taxpayer dollars. He also sits on the Armed Services, Agriculture, and Small Business Committees.

Before coming to Congress, Brad spent 24-years in the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's office protecting the people of southwest Indiana. He was twice decorated for heroism in the line of duty and graduated from the FBI National Academy. In 1998, Brad was elected Vanderburgh County Sheriff, where he completed two terms. Brad was born and raised in southern Indiana. He grew up in Evansville; attending University of Southern Indiana and Indiana State University. Brad and his wife, Beth, reside in Evansville. Together they have a daughter, Andrea.

Project Name:  Burkhardt Road Improvement Project
Amount Requested: $4,834,006
Project Summary: These funds would be used for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Burkhardt Road from 0.11 miles south of S.R. 66 to Lincoln Avenue and includes additional travel lanes as well as concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks.

Project Name: Lincoln Avenue Rehabilitation
Amount Requested: $4,400,000.00
Project Summary:  These funds would be used for the reconstruction/rehabilitation of Lincoln Avenue between Martin Lane and S. Green River Road. The project is a key segment of a heavily traveled corridor that spans two counties and links U.S. 41 in Vanderburgh County on the west end to Old S.R. 261 in Warrick County on the east end, where it has specifically been designated as a regionally significant highway in the Transportation Improvement Program for the Evansville-Henderson Urbanized Area (Fiscal Years 2008-2011).  The entire project is part of a multi-million dollar, multi-phased improvement to the corridor that provides safety, economic, mobility, and environmental benefits to the area.

Project Name: Oak Hill Road Improvements and Reconstruction 
Amount Requested: $5,421,100
Project Summary: These funds would be used for the reconstruction of Oak Hill Road from Pigeon Creek to Lynch Road, including the addition of a two-way left-turn lane and bicycle paths. Oak Hill Road is a heavily traveled corridor that links U.S. 41 in Evansville on the south end to S.R. 57 in Vanderburgh County on the north end.  The southern-most segment of the corridor (from U.S. 41 to Pigeon Creek) is a federal-aid project scheduled for construction in 2009.  The entire project is part of a multi-million dollar, multi-phased improvement to the corridor that provides safety, economic, mobility, and environmental benefits to the area.

Project Name: The Depot Street Renovation Project
Amount Requested: $6,400,000
Project Summary:  These funds would be used for the construction of a rail overpass on Depot Street in Sullivan, Indiana. The road leads to Sullivan County Park and Lake, as well as the grain elevator, a major employer for the county and city.  The condition of the road is dangerous to all vehicles, but particularly longer vehicles such as grain trucks and trucks pulling campers and trailers. Additionally, emergency vehicles will have better access to park and lake visitors.

Project Name: Wolfe Street Project
Amount Requested: $1,360,000
Project Summary:  These funds would be used for the reconstruction of the bridge crossing at Buck Creek on Wolfe Street in Sullivan, Indiana. Wolfe Street is major connector road in the county lined with many businesses; however, the existing Wolfe Street Bridge is narrower than the road it connects on both sides. The reconstruction will improve the safety of those who cross the bridge every day.

Project Name:  Margaret Avenue Safety and Capacity Enhancement Project
Amount Requested: $4,000,000
Project Summary: These funds would be used for the engineering design, and construction on Margaret Avenue in Terre Haute, Indiana, from 7th to 14th Streets (Phase 2). The project provides the critical transportation infrastructure improvements needed to support established land use plans and a strategy for new development, redevelopment and revitalization of the Margaret Ave Corridor. The project will help reduce accidents and improve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.

Project Name: 6th Street Separation Project
Amount Requested: $5,000,000
Project Summary: These funds would be used to construct a new grade separation structure for Sixth Street over three CSX Railroad tracks in Vincennes, Indiana. Currently, train tracks bisect the city; affecting traffic flow and impeding the ability of emergency vehicles to respond to emergencies. The project will improve vehicular flow and provide a way for emergency vehicles to travel without delay.

Project Name: I-69 - Indianapolis to Evansville
Amount Requested: $1,169,600,000
Project Summary: These funds would be used for the construction of Interstate-69 in Indiana. The I-69 Corridor traverses Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas and serves as a major national and international freight route, connecting to both Canada and Mexico. It serves 17 of the top 25 seaports, 13 inland waterway ports, 15 of the top 25 cargo airports, as well as every major railroad.  Completions will increase transportation efficiency by reducing fuel consumption, travel time and costs between Evansville and Indianapolis, while facilitating trade and promoting economic development in communities along the corridor.

Project Name: North Knox Economic Development Corridor
Amount Requested: $7,824,000
Project Summary: These funds would be used for the reconstruction of Freelandville Road across northern Knox County, Indiana.  The project would also include the replacement of three bridges along the corridor.  The project will connect the new $2.3 billion coal gasification plant with coal suppliers, and is essential for safety and efficiency along the route.

Project Name: County Bridge Reconstruction Project
Amount Requested: $2,000,000
Project Summary: These funds would be used for the design, engineering and reconstruction of three county bridges in order to bring them up to current safety standards. The project reconstructs three of the most dilapidated bridges in the county which no longer meet current safety standards and present heightened risks for motorists.

Requesting Entity: Southwest Indiana Economic Development Coalition
Project Name: Intermodal Project
Amount Requested: $3,200,000
Project Summary: These funds would be used for the construction of roadway and intersection improvements on U.S. Highway 41, as well as Baseline and Stacer Roads in Vanderburgh County to service the new Southwest Indiana Logistics Park. The Southwest Indiana Logistics Park and its planned multi-modal terminal will be located on the CSX Railroad's mainline between Chicago and the Southeast United States, and will replace the present CSX intermodal terminal in Evansville. The Southwest Indiana Logistics Park will provide superior access to virtually all of the major U.S. intermodal markets as well as both East and West Coast ports.

Project Name: Warrick County Connector Road
Amount Requested: $17,200,000
Project Summary: These funds would be used for the construction of a county connector road from the current Highway 57 north of Interstate 64 and adjacent to the North Warrick Industrial Park, proceeding south across Interstate 64 via a new overpass and continuing south through Warrick County and connecting back into Indiana Highway 57 at the current Interstate 164 interchange just north of Baseline Road. The connector road and the overpass would greatly improve emergency response time to residents and businesses located north of Interstate 64 in Warrick and Gibson Counties, as well as open more than 3,600-acres for regional economic development purposes.  The connector roadway and overpass would also encourage development of the new North Warrick County Industrial Park.

Project Name: Campus Perimeter Transportation System
Amount Requested: $3,500,000
Project Summary: These funds would be used for a third and final phase of their Campus Perimeter Transportation Project.  This phase will complete the construction of the new campus loop road on the eastern side of the campus and will direct traffic to parking lots. The improved intersections, wider travel lanes, pedestrian bridges and crosswalks, and directional signage included in the project will make for a safer campus for pedestrians and vehicular traffic.  Additional bicycle lanes and walkways will also reduce vehicular traffic and improve safety.

Project Name:  State Road 62 - University Parkway Interchange Project
Amount Requested: $1,000,000
Project Summary:  These funds would be used for the design and environmental studies required for the reconstruction of the interchange located at the intersection of State Road 62 and University Parkway. The project addresses a traffic congestion problem at the interchange at the main entrance to the University of Southern Indiana to improve accessibility and safety.

Project Name: University Parkway Project
Amount Requested: $1,000,000
Project Summary:  These funds would be used for construction of University Parkway between Marx Road and State Road 66 in western Vanderburgh County, Indiana.  This will also include the construction of a bridge over Little Creek. The project will provide a new highway connection to the University of Southern Indiana (USI), which will improve the accessibility of the university for the numerous commuter students that attend USI.  In addition, with its proximity to the Posey - Vanderburgh County line, University Parkway will provide a faster and safer roadway for both passenger cars and for truck traffic.  Improved accessibility for truck traffic movement will also benefit trucks serving the Southwind Maritime Center along the Ohio River in Posey County. The ultimate goal is to connect State Road 62 to Interstate 64.
