Rep. Slaughter Announces New Hope for Homeless Veterans
Veterans in New York's 28^th District to Receive Help, Protection

Washington, DC - Rep. Louise M. Slaughter (D-Fairport), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Rules, announced today a number of grants awarded to local organizations that will provide emergency shelter, job counseling, substance abuse counseling and employment services for homeless veterans.

The four grants were awarded to organizations located in Buffalo and Rochester: Goodwill Industries of New York in Buffalo will receive $194,340; Western New York Veterans Housing Coalition in Buffalo will receive $162,475; The Salvation Army in Rochester will receive $163,437; and the Veterans Outreach Center in Rochester will receive $300,000. The total amount awarded to New York's 28^th district will be $820,252.

"I have a long history of supporting our veterans in New York," Rep. Slaughter said, "I am thrilled that these community organizations have been given the opportunity to reach out and support those people to whom we owe so much.  We truly have a moral obligation to protect and help our veterans." 

Speaking of the specific programs the grants will sponsor, Rep. Slaughter said, "The grants awarded to these organizations are more than just money.  The programs they fund are designed to treat serious problems, such as substance abuse and abject poverty.  Job counseling and employment services also play a vital role.  The grants will ultimately help build a stronger community for everyone in Western New York."
