Washington, Jan 31 - On January 31, 2007, the House of Representatives passed legislation drafted by the Democratic leadership that will fund operations of the federal government through September 30, 2007. Congressman Henry E. Brown (R-SC) made the following statement after the House concluded its action on the legislation:
“Voting for this measure was not an easy decision, but I could not, in good confidence put at risk the important increases provided in the bill for veterans’ health care and education. In addition, the legislation prevented a major reduction in transportation spending that would have occurred if the House had simply passed a straight funding resolution.”
“There is a lot of good in this bill, but I believe that if this legislation had moved through the open process of prior years, changes and improvements could have been offered and debated. Democrats have yet to deliver on their promise of more transparency in the House.”
