Brown Commends the Success of the First Flight of Boeing's 787 Dreamliner

WASHINGTON – Today marked the first flight of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Congressman Henry E. Brown, Jr. (R-SC) joined Congressman Norm Dicks (D-WA) for a public viewing of the first flight in his Washington, DC office. Following the viewing, Congressman Brown made the following remarks:

“This is a landmark day in aviation history as the first flight of the 787 Dreamliner marks another milestone in Boeing’s successful venture to build the world’s most advanced commercial airplane.

The success of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is largely due to the efforts of thousands of Boeing employees whose hard work ensured that the plane’s readiness for its first flight. With 55 customers and more than 800 sold, the Dreamliner introduces new breakthrough technologies to the field of aviation that have been met with great market success, and with today’s triumphant first flight, these revolutionary planes will soon be at airports around the world.

As the site of Boeing’s second 787 Dreamliner assembly line, South Carolina’s First District has the opportunity to contribute to this historic event and I am thrilled that Charleston has been selected to share this achievement with such an accomplished and upstanding company."
