Congressman Brown Reminds Seniors to Review Prescription Plans

Medicare Part D Open Enrollment Begins November 15th

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Henry Brown urges all eligible participants of the Medicare Part D plans to review their prescription drug needs as the open enrollment period begins November 15.  Medicare recipients can switch their prescription drug plans through December 31.  The plans cover both brand-name and generic prescription drugs and are accepted at most pharmacies.  Everyone with Medicare is eligible for this coverage, regardless of income and resources, health status, or current prescription expenses.

“Everyone who is currently enrolled in a Medicare prescription drug plan should take this opportunity to compare their plan with other options to determine if it is still the best choice,” Brown said.  For those about to turn 65, the Initial Enrollment Period runs from three months prior to the birthday to three months following.  Waiting to join at a later date may result in additional costs.

Eligible participants who did not join during their Initial Enrollment Period may do so during this open enrollment window, but they may pay a penalty.  The savings in the cost of prescription drugs, however, could more than offset any penalty.

“The resources of my office are available for anyone with questions concerning Medicare Part D and the available plans,” Brown noted.  Residents of the First Congressional District can call the Charleston District Office at (843) 747-4175 or use the toll-free number, (888) 868-0737.  Additional contact information is available at Congressman Brown’s website:  www.brown.house.gov.   Additional information is available at www.medicare.gov.
