Brown and Residents of South Carolina's First District Participate
in a Health Care 'House Call' on Washington

WASHINGTON -Today, Congressman Henry E. Brown, Jr. (R-SC) joined his constituents from South Carolina along with thousands of other citizens concerned about the future of health care for a “House Call on Washington” to express their strong opposition to the Democrats’ 1.3 trillion dollar health care plan. Several constituents from South Carolina’s First District made the trip to Washington to participate in the event and later met with Congressman Brown to personally voice their concerns. After the event, Congressman Brown made the following remarks.

“I am proud to stand with both my Republican colleagues and concerned constituents, who traveled a great distance to have their voices heard, and to send a clear message that I will be voting NO on the Democrat Health Care Bill, HR 3962.

The Democrats’ plan is a government takeover of health care that increases costs, taxes our small businesses and creates more government mandates for both individuals and their doctors. Today, my constituents along with Americans throughout the country showed an outpouring of concern for what this bill will do to the future of our health care system and proudly stood with Republicans to challenge the Democrat health care plan.

The Democrats in Congress have not listened to the American people so it’s no wonder that thousands of American’s chanted ‘can you hear me now’ and ‘kill the bill’ during today’s event.

However, Republicans have offered a common-sense health care alternative that lowers costs and increases coverage without the burden of bigger government management. Just yesterday, the Congressional Budget Office reported that the Republican health care alternative will reduce health care premiums by up to 10 percent and lower federal budget deficits by $68 billion over the next ten years.

After participating in today’s health care call on Washington and meeting with my constituents, I firmly believe the Republican plan for reform is a solution that both Congress and the residents of the First District of South Carolina can be proud of.”
