WASHINGTON- After joining his colleagues from the House Veterans Affairs Committee yesterday for the signing of the Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act, Congressman Henry E. Brown, Jr. (R-SC), the Ranking Republican on the VA Subcommittee on Health, made the following statement:
“I was proud to stand with my colleagues from both sides of the aisle today as legislation was sent to the President for enactment into law that will ensure that veterans will receive the benefits they deserve in a timely manner.
For 19 of the 20 previous years, Congress failed to approve funding by the first of the fiscal year, complicating efforts to provide an efficient and effective health system.
Now, we will actually be able to get funds moving towards VA health care providers sooner, as this legislation instructs Congress to approve the VA’s budget for veterans’ health one year before the funds are actually distributed.
This should help us accomplish our goals within the VA and will allow the VA additional planning time to provide sufficient and timely care for all of our nation’s heroes.”
