WASHINGTON- During today’s Resource Committee markup, Congressman Henry E. Brown, Jr. applauded the unanimous passage of legislation he sponsored, the Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Program Reauthorization Act of 2009(HR 3537). Additionally, Congressman Brown made the following statement congratulating Mr. Weston DeWolff, Charleston resident and South Carolina winner of the Junior Duck Stamp Design Program’s nationwide art contest:

“I am pleased to report that Weston DeWolff, a 15-year old student at the Charleston County School of the Arts was this year’s “Best of Show” winner for the State of South Carolina. I congratulate him for his achievement and his artistic depiction of a male and female mallard duck.

Additionally, I am proud to join Congressmen Solomon Ortiz in sponsoring the Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Program Act of 2009, legislation that would extend the funding for the program and ensure that other students, like Mr. DeWolff, will have the opportunity to participate in this contest in the future.”

The Junior Duck Stamp Program was developed twenty years ago, in an effort to provide a dynamic arts curriculum that teaches wetlands and waterfowl conservation to students from kindergarten to high school.  As thousands of students have benefitted from the conservation curriculum and the opportunity to participate in the nationwide art contest, Congressmen Ortiz and Brown introduced the Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Program Act of 2009 earlier this month to extend the program until September 30, 2015.

In addition to applauding the unanimous passage of this essential conservation legislation, Congressman Brown congratulates Ducks Unlimited, the world’s largest and most effective waterfowl conservation organization for recently receiving a $1 million North American Wetlands Conservation Act grant for protection and enhancement of over 8,000 acres of diverse wildlife habitat in both Charleston and Georgetown counties in the First District of South Carolina.
