Brown Touts Legislation to Encourage Overseas Visitors to U.S.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Henry E. Brown, Jr. (R-SC), an active member of the Congressional Travel and Tourism Caucus, hailed passage of H.R.3232, the Travel Promotion Act of 2007, legislation creating a public-private partnership to increase tourism to the United States from foreign countries.  Tourism is the number one industry in the First District of South Carolina, and growing tourism from foreign countries is a key goal of regional tourism promoters.  Congressman Brown, who is committed to working hard to encourage people to visit and enjoy the beauty of coastal South Carolina, made the following comments after passage of the legislation today in the House:

“Tourism is the backbone of the economy in the First District of South Carolina, and because of this, I was proud to cosponsor the Travel Promotion Act of 2007.  My hope is that by educating foreign tourists about how easy it is to visit the United States, many new and repeat international travelers will be encouraged to visit coastal South Carolina in the future.”

The Travel Promotion Act of 2007 will address America’s overseas travel crisis by establishing an independent, non-profit corporation, the Corporation for Travel Promotion. This corporation will operate a nationally coordinated, public-private campaign of up to $200 million annually to better communicate America’s travel policies, improvements to America’s travel procedures and encourage foreign travelers to visit the United States.
