'Progress in Iraq'

Congressman Brown Responds to Petraeus-Crocker Report

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Henry Brown (SC-01) issued the following statement following the testimony from General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker:

“Today’s progress report from General Petraeus shows just that - our troops are making progress in Iraq.  This report from the field represents the most accurate and credible assessment of the situation in Iraq, and all evidence points to the fact that the current military strategy is working.

I stand with the American people who overwhelmingly believe that it is our generals in uniform who can and will lead our troops towards a successful end to the war in Iraq.  It is my hope that my colleagues in Congress will take an unbiased approach to the General’s report rather than play politics with the security of our troops and our nation.”

Appearing before a joint hearing of the House Armed Services and Foreign Affairs Committees, General Petraeus testified that “military objectives are by and large being met” and that troop levels may be reduced to pre-surge levels by next summer.
