Brown Encourages the President to
Listen to the American People on Health Care

WASHINGTON- Prior to President Obama’s address to the Joint Session of Congress, Congressman Henry E. Brown, Jr. (R-SC) made the following statement:

“The President will be giving his 28th national speech on health care tonight and Republicans and the American people are urging him to finally present a thorough outline on his health care reform plan.

During this past August, my colleagues and I heard the American people loud and clear; they are tired of the rhetoric and are demanding that their Leaders provide the answers they have been waiting for.  The President, once again, has the opportunity to offer substantive details to address their concerns and show that he has been listening.

My constituents in the First District of South Carolina insist that any true health care reform lower the cost of health insurance and health care in the long term, while keeping the government from interfering with the sacred doctor-patient relationship.

Republicans have offered a budget-neutral proposal based on the fundamental principle that personal medical decisions should be made by patients and their doctors, not unaccountable bureaucrats in Washington.

I look forward to hearing what the President has to say tonight and hope that he will listen to the requests of the American people and plan to work towards quality, affordable, patient-centered health care reform.”
