Brown Denounces New Deficit Numbers and
Proposes a Balanced Budget

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Henry E. Brown, Jr. (R-SC) issued the following statement regarding the Obama administration’s forecast that their spending plans will result in a $9 trillion deficit over the next decade. This projection is nearly $2 trillion more than the White House’s previous forecast.

“Sadly, the updated deficit estimates announced today by the White House budget office and the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO), provide an accurate picture of how the Democrat’s irresponsible budget will effect Americans over the next decade.

As families and businesses struggle and cut back on their spending, here in Washington, all previous deficit records have been shattered and business as usual continues with no signs of stopping.

Not a single one of my Republican colleagues supported this irresponsible path of spending, one that created the largest budget in American history. But Republicans believed then and now that we can and must do better to protect our children and our grandchildren from overwhelming future debt.

I was proud to support a Republican alternative of a balanced budget that would have provided $1.2 trillion in tax relief, ended bailouts, reduced non-defense discretionary spending and tackled health entitlements. Unfortunately, this positive solution was ignored.”

Congressman Brown, as a senior member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, is working diligently with local leaders, corporate representatives and the other members of the South Carolina Delegation to build an open and communicative relationship with The Boeing Company.

As Boeing’s potential expansion in the state is economically beneficial for the First District and all of South Carolina, the Congressman, in close partnership with Senator Lindsey Graham, is consistently providing supportive political representation in Washington with the goal of a positive outcome for all parties involved.

Additionally, Congressman Brown, and the rest of the South Carolina Delegation, recently wrote to Mr. James McNerney, Chairman, President and CEO of The Boeing Company, congratulating them on their acquisition of the Vought facility in Charleston and further strengthening the lines of communication between their company and the South Carolina leaders in Washington.
