Congressman Brown Votes to Reauthorize SCHIP

Opposes Plan to Cut Medicare for America's Seniors

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Henry Brown voted for a Republican measure that would reauthorize the State Children’s Health Insurance Plan.  He voiced his strong opposition to a Democrat-authored bill that would dramatically alter the successful program and cut services for America’s seniors:

“When Congress passed SCHIP in 1997, there was bi-partisan consensus on this important program focused on bringing healthcare to America’s neediest children.  Rather than take this opportunity to ensure that every child has access to affordable healthcare, the CHAMP Act takes resources from our most vulnerable populations and gives it to families making $80,000 a year or more.

This Democrat-authored bill, which I strongly opposed, cuts Medicare services for our seniors, increases taxes on American families and takes a dangerous step toward socialized medicine.”
