Congressman Brown Meets Mayor Letizia Moratti of Milan

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Last week, Congressman Henry E. Brown, Jr. met with Letizia Moratti, the Mayor of Milan, at a luncheon sponsored by Guarini Public Policy Forum. Brown, a member of the Italian American Congressional Delegation, welcomed Mayor Moratti to Washington and later said:

“It was an honor to meet and speak with Mayor Moratti and remind her of the First Congressional District’s strong ties to Italy.  Charleston is home to the Spoleto Festival USA, a celebration of the arts which is the American counterpart of the Festival of Two Worlds held each year in Spoleto, Italy.   North Charleston also enjoys the presence of Global Aeronautica LLC, a joint venture between Alenia North America, a subsidiary of Italy’s Alenia Aeronautica, and Vought Aircraft Industries.  This outstanding business partner is currently assembling and integrating portions of the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner.”

Mayor Moratti was elected as the first female mayor of Milan in 2006.  Prior to her election, she served five years as Education Minister for Italy, following a successful business career.  She was in Washington to meet with Congressional leaders as part of the National Italian American Foundation Guarini Public Policy Forum.  The Forum is held on Capitol Hill in collaboration with the Italian American Congressional Delegation, a bicameral and bipartisan group that includes more than 200 Members of Congress.

Joseph V. Del Raso, Esq., NIAF Executive VP and Chair of the Government Relations Committee, introduced the Mayor at the Forum. He noted that “Congressman Brown is an asset to the Italian American Congressional Delegation. He deeply understands the dynamics of International Relations and the importance of Milan as financial center and Italy as a major political and commercial ally of the United States.”
