Brown Supports Supreme Court Decision to Overturn D.C. Gun Ban

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Henry E. Brown, Jr. (SC), a strong supporter of the right to bear arms, made the following statement today after the decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold a federal appeals court ruling that a gun ban in Washington, D.C. is unconstitutional:

“I agree with today’s decision by the Supreme Court.  Removing this ban, which was a violation of the Second Amendment, guarantees individuals the right to defend themselves and their families in their own homes with simple, ordinary firearms, including handguns.”

This is a historic decision as D.C.’s ban was one of the toughest in the country, and its reversal will have effect nationwide. Earlier this year, Congressman Brown joined with the majority of his colleagues in the House and Senate in calling on the Supreme Court to overturn the District’s gun ban and uphold the Second Amendment.
