Hanna Joins Brown in Pushing for Passage of Species Semipostal Stamp Act

Washington, DC- This week, Congressman Henry E. Brown Jr. (R-SC) was joined by Jack Hanna, the Director Emeritus of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, and a few of his animal ambassadors, in support of the swift passage of, H.R. 1454, the Multinational Species Conservation Funds Semipostal Stamp Act, legislation introduced by Congressman Brown. Following Hanna’s visit to his DC office, Congressman Brown, made the following statement:

“I want to thank Mr. Hanna and his entourage of animal ambassadors for joining me today in my efforts to pass H.R. 1454, the Multinational Species Conservation Funds Semipostal Stamp Act, legislation that would create a new funding stream, without using tax dollars, to protect wildlife by designing and issuing a United States Postal Service semi postal stamp depicting certain flagship wildlife species.

His knowledge and appreciation of all forms of animal wildlife truly gives my sponsorship, and the bipartisan cosponsorship of 78 of my fellow House colleagues, the credibility necessary to gain further support to pass this bill.”

Brown’s legislation will provide desperately needed money to supplement Congressional appropriations at no cost to either the Postal Service or U.S. taxpayers. In fact, it is estimated that the bill will actually generate funds for the Postal Service in addition to boosting preexisting wildlife conservation accounts.

Demonstrating the broad base of support for this proposal, H.R. 1454 is supported and endorsed by organizations such as the National Rifle Association; the Association of Zoos and Aquariums; the Humane Society of the United States; The Nature Conservancy; the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation; the American Veterinary Medical Association; Safari Club International and the World Wildlife Fund.
