Congressman Brown Sworn Into the 111th Congress

WASHINGTON, DC – This afternoon, surrounded by his colleagues of the 111th Congress, Congressman Henry Brown (R-SC) was sworn into his fifth term in the U.S. House of Representatives. After being administered the oath office by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, he made the following statement:

“I am deeply honored to be continuing in my service to the people of the First District of South Carolina and am eager to work on their behalf to fight for what is most important to them.

As we begin this new session of Congress, our nation faces uncertain economic times and I believe the first step in stabilizing and strengthening our nation is solving our ever prominent and continuing energy crisis.

We must continue focusing on our need to become more energy independent. Our country still receives some 70% of our energy from foreign nations during a time when we could be expanding domestic energy production, creating new jobs and progressing towards economic recovery.

Many backed the efforts of House Republicans this summer during our energy protest, but as fuel costs have become more reasonable, some may have lost sight of our ultimate goal. Congress must continue pursuing and prioritizing the production of American energy for the American people, no matter the fluctuation of fuel prices.

In addition, I will also be working with Congress to find solutions to our transportation and infrastructure challenges. Congestion costs billions each year, and by exploring new transportation options such as high-speed rail and an expanded Interstate system, we may begin alleviating some of this overcrowding.

I look forward to working diligently towards these and many other goals during the 111th Congress, and again, it is a great honor and privilege to serve the people of the First District.”
