DREAM Act

There are thousands of young people in America illegally through no fault of their own – their parents brought them here as children. Since arriving in America these kids have gone to school, done their homework, participated in school activities, and received high school diplomas. Yet they face barriers to the college education that would enable them to contribute to our country’s next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, or soldiers because of their immigration status. Senator Franken does not believe that we should punish children for the acts of their parents. He is a co-sponsor of the DREAM Act, S. 729, which would allow undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and pursue a college education or enlist in our nation's military to apply for conditional permanent resident status.
