Rules Approves Health Insurance Antitrust Repeal For House Consideration
WASHINGTON-The House Committee on Rules met today and reported a closed rule for the consideration of H.R. 4626, Health Insurance Industry Fair Competition Act. The bill is expected on the floor tomorrow. A copy of the rule is below.
H.R. 4626 - Health Insurance Industry Fair Competition Act
1. Closed rule.
2. Provides two hours of debate equally divided and controlled by the chair and ranking minority member of the Committee on the Judiciary.
3. Waives all points of order against consideration of the bill except those arising under clause 9 or 10 of rule XXI.
4. Provides that the bill shall be considered as read.
5. Provides that all points of order against provisions of the bill are waived. This waiver does not affect the point of order available under clause 9 of rule XXI (regarding earmark disclosure).
6. Provides one motion to recommit with or without instructions.
RESOLUTION
Resolved, That upon the adoption of this resolution it shall be in order to consider in the House the bill (H.R. 4626) to restore the application of the Federal antitrust laws to the business of health insurance to protect competition and consumers. All points of order against consideration of the bill are waived except those arising under clause 9 or 10 of rule XXI. The bill shall be considered as read. All points of order against provisions in the bill are waived. The previous question shall be considered as ordered on the bill to final passage without intervening motion except: (1) two hours of debate equally divided and controlled by the chair and ranking minority member of the Committee on the Judiciary; and (2) one motion to recommit.
