Small, Beginning, and Organic Farmers

Minnesota has a vibrant and growing number of small and organic farmers. I support policies that bolster the viability and enhance access to markets for these farmers. Half of all current farmers in the U.S. are likely to retire in the next decade, so it's also important that we encourage new people to enter the field of agriculture. As new farmers take up the field of agriculture on a small scale in Minnesota, we are seeing new and innovative ways of growing food and supporting robust local and regional food systems. We can assist beginning farmers with training, help make small and organic farmers more viable in the marketplace, and support development of more local and regional food systems.
