Hastings Requests Update on Sunnyside Post Office

Following recent actions by the United States Postal Service transferring carrier and delivery staff from the Sunnyside post office to a postal annex, Congressman Hastings is asking the Postal Service to meet with the local community to discuss their concerns.

Tour of PNWU Campus Highlights Growth of Medical School 
While in Yakima, Congressman Hastings recently visited the medical school campus at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences.  During the tour he met with School administrators, students, and faculty.  In his tour the Congressman visited several of the classrooms, as well as the anatomy lab, and discussed ways to attract doctors and nurses to underserved communities throughout Central Washington.


Hastings Supports Fair Trade for Local Farmers

 

Congressman Hastings wrote recently to U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk to request the interests of American dairy producers are carefully considered as a new Trans-Pacific Partnership (TTP) Agreement is developed. 

"As a representative from the most trade-dependent state in the nation, I understand the critical role that developing fair trade agreements and expanding foreign markets for U.S. products have in creating jobs and growing our economy.  American dairy producers are an integral part of our economy – particularly in rural areas like Central Washington state.  Ensuring that the TTP Agreement, creates a truly fair and level playing field for American agriculture must be a top priority.”

Hastings Seeks Input on NCLB Changes

 

During a recent visit with Yakima School District Superintendent, Dr. Elaine Beraza, Congressman Hastings discussed the pending renewal of the No Child Left Behind Act, which guides federal education policy.  This renewal will give Congress the opportunity to make improvements to the law.  As Congress begins this process, Congressman Hastings welcomes input from parents, teachers, or community members on changes to ensure that children in Central Washington are getting the best possible education.  Please email Hastings.EducationUpdate@mail.house.gov with any suggestions. 


Hastings Meets with Local Residents

 

Congressman Hastings visits with many local residents and organizations when he is traveling in Central Washington or working in Washington, D.C.  He recently met with the Yakima County Development Association to discuss creating jobs and growing the local economy, Sunnyside officials to discuss anti-drug and gang efforts, and representatives from EPIC to talk about ways to strengthen education throughout Yakima County.
