On April, 21, 2006, Congressman Bartlett presented Mt. Savage resident James Malloy medals he earned during the Vietnam War. Mr. James Malloy served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Walkersville Elementary School Space Day 2006 Winners Meet Congressman Roscoe Bartlett - On May 3, 2006, Congressman Roscoe Bartlett met 34 students and their teachers from Walkersville Elementary School. The students composed two of 21 teams that won the national 2006 Space Day Design Challenge competition sponsored by Lockheed Martin for students in grades 4-8. Space Day is a year-long educational effort with a goal of advancing science, math and technology education. The Design Challenges are a vehicle to encourage today's students to pursue math, science, technology and engineering. The theme this year was "Living and Working on the Moon". One team from Walkersville won Best Overall in the Cosmic Cuisine Challange creating a meal for a teen astronaut to eat in space. The other Walkersville team won Best Overall in the Stretch and Fetch Challenge creating a tool astronauts could use in space. Bartlett Posthumous Medal Presentation to Richard Etzler for His Father Kenneth - Frederick, MD -- On March 28, 2006, in his Frederick, Maryland office, Congressman Roscoe Bartlett made a posthumous presentation of Kenneth Etzler's Bronze Star medal and an American flag flown over the Capitol to Kenneth's family led by his son Richard Etzler of Union Bridge, Maryland. Kenneth Etzler had previously received the combat infantry medal, Purple Heart, the Ardennes campaign with two battle stars from the Battle of the Bulge and the African campaign ribbon from his service as a Private First Class in the Army during World War II. Kenneth Etzler was disabled as a result of wounds he suffered during his service between 1943 and his honorable discharge in1945.
