Presentation of Prints "Lighting at Bourheim" (Germany) depicting the heroics of Westminster native Joe "Lighting" Farinholt. - These pictures were presented to Sergeant First Class James D. Bartholomew, Sergeant Randy L. Divel, Parents of the Late Staff Sergeant Michael McMullen. Each of these men were injured in Iraq on Dec. 24th. Mr. McMullen died Jan. 10, 2006 of his wounds. Each have been recognized for their bravery under fire.

Rep. Bartlett Receives Defender of Economic Freedom Award - Congressman Roscoe Bartlett was presented with the Defender of Economic Freedom Award by The Club for Growth’s Executive Director David Keating on September 20, 2006. Congressman Bartlett ranked 20th with a score of 94 and was one of only 27 Members of the 435-Member House to receive the award which required a rating of over 90 on nine key votes supporting pro-growth economic policies for the 109th Congress during its 1st Session in 2005.

Freedom to Display the American Flag Act Approved by the House of Representatives - Congressman Roscoe Bartlett was joined by supporters at a news conference on June 27 to applaud the unanimous approval by the House of Representatives of his bill, “The Freedom to Display the American Flag Act of 2005” (H.R. 42). The bill would ensure the right of an individual to display the flag of the United States on their residential property. They are holding a replica of the 15-star flag that flew over Fort McHenry and inspired Francis Scott Key to write America’s National Anthem, The Star Spangled Banner.

In addition, representatives of GM, Ford, Toyota and Honda attended. After the opening ceremony, there were opportunities for the public to ride and drive a hydrogen fuel-celled car and numerous hybrid models currently on the market. A static display of efficient cars was in the mall throughout the entire weekend. The Francis Scott Key Mall is owned by Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust.

Roscoe Bartlett Presents James Malloy Medals He Earned During the Vietnam War - “One of my greatest honors and privileges as a Member of Congress is the opportunity to personally thank veterans for their service and sacrifices to our country and to present them with medals they earned,” said Congressman Roscoe Bartlett. On April, 21, 2006, Congressman Bartlett presented Mt. Savage resident James Malloy medals he earned during the Vietnam War. Mr. James Malloy served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Congressman Bartlett will present him with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon and Combat Action Ribbon.
Congressman Roscoe Bartlett Presents Marvin Warnick Medals He Earned During Korean War - “One of my greatest honors and privileges as a Member of Congress is the opportunity to personally thank veterans for their service and sacrifices to our country and to present them with medals they earned,” said Congressman Roscoe Bartlett. On April 21, 2006, Congressman Bartlett presented Grantsville resident Mr. Marvin Warnick medals, including the Purple Heart, that he had earned serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
Walkersville Elementary School Space Day 2006 Winners Meet Congressman Roscoe Bartlett - On May 3, 2006, Congressman Roscoe Bartlett met 34 students and their teachers from Walkersville Elementary School. The students composed two of 21 teams that won the national 2006 Space Day Design Challenge competition sponsored by Lockheed Martin for students in grades 4-8.
Space Day is a year-long educational effort with a goal of advancing science, math and technology education. The Design Challenges are a vehicle to encourage today's students to pursue math, science, technology and engineering. The theme this year was "Living and Working on the Moon". One team from Walkersville won Best Overall in the Cosmic Cuisine Challange creating a meal for a teen astronaut to eat in space. The other Walkersville team won Best Overall in the Stretch and Fetch Challenge creating a tool astronauts could use in space.
Clean Diesel Technology on Display - On Thursday May 11, the Diesel Technology Forum based in Frederick, Maryland sponsored a "Meet Clean Diesel" exhibit on Capitol Hill. Congressman Roscoe Bartlett was briefed about the new 2007 clean diesel technology installed in a Granite model Mack Truck whose drivetrain – including new emissions control technology was manufactured in Hagerstown, MD.

Congressman Roscoe Bartlett Receives “Taxpayers’ Friend” Award for 2005 - Congressman Roscoe Bartlett (R) was presented with the National Taxpayers Union (NTU)’s “Taxpayers’ Friend” Award for 2005 by Peter Sepp, Director of Communications for NTU. Rep. Bartlett was the only representative from the state of Maryland to receive the honor. “Rep. Bartlett’s pro-taxpayer score of 73 percent ranked 15th among the 30 House Members who received "A" grades,” said Dr. John Berthoud, president of the National Taxpayers Union. “Rep. Bartlett’s score was one of the best in the entire House. By consistently voting to reduce federal spending, taxes, and debt, Rep. Bartlett has truly earned the title, ‘Taxpayers’ Friend.’”

Rep. Bartlett Posthumous Medal Presentation to Richard Etzler for His Father Kenneth - Frederick, MD -- On March 28, 2006, in his Frederick, Maryland office, Congressman Roscoe Bartlett made a posthumous presentation of Kenneth Etzler's Bronze Star medal and an American flag flown over the Capitol to Kenneth's family led by his son Richard Etzler of Union Bridge, Maryland. Kenneth Etzler had previously received the combat infantry medal, Purple Heart, the Ardennes campaign with two battle stars from the Battle of the Bulge and the African campaign ribbon from his service as a Private First Class in the Army during World War II. Kenneth Etzler was disabled as a result of wounds he suffered during his service between 1943 and his honorable discharge in1945.
