Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) released the following statement in reaction to a Wall Street Journal report that Minority Leader John Boehner sought campaign contributions in exchange for fighting efforts to crack down on executive compensation. Click here to read the Journal story and click here to read about Welch’s Wall Street Bonus Tax Act.

“It’s hard to imagine a more cynical situation than Leader Boehner hitting up Wall Street titans for campaign cash over drinks in exchange for protecting their excessive bonuses. Mr. Boehner may see political opportunity in cementing his role as Wall Street’s fiercest advocate, but the American people are demanding an end to excess in the financial industry. We must focus on creating jobs, reforming our broken health care system and restoring our economy – not protecting the Wall Street bankers who pushed our economy off a cliff last year.”
