Governor Douglas and Vermont’s Congressional Delegation kickoff $70 Million Passenger Rail Improvement

Governor Jim Douglas, Senator Bernie Sanders, Congressman Peter Welch and a host of national and local rail officials and advocates today drove a golden spike along the tracks outside of the St. Albans Amtrak Station to signify the beginning of a two-year, $70 million construction project that will significantly improve track speeds along the Vermonter Passenger Rail line between St. Albans and New York City, with continuing service to Washington D.C.

Over 120 Recovery Act Broadband Projects to Bring Jobs, Economic Opportunity to Rural Communities

 

WASHINGTON, August 4, 2010- Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced the funding of 126 new Recovery Act broadband infrastructure projects that will create jobs and provide rural residents in 38 states and Native American tribal areas access to improved service. Broadband access plays a critical role in expanding economic, health care, educational and public safety services in underserved rural communities. Today's announcement is part of the second round of USDA broadband funding through the Recovery Act.

Be Aware of Potential Recovery Scams

 

     Earlier this year, a company with the impressive sounding name of Mouch & Thompson, PLLC, sent a letter to low-income residents in the Charleston, West Virginia, area with an offer that was hard to refuse. The first 50 recipients of the letter to show up at Mouch & Thompson’s offices in downtown Charleston on February 15 would be guaranteed a rental assistance grant under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Or so wrote Wesley Mouch, the firm’s president.
