Recovery Act Funding Helps Save Local Taxpayers Money
(Washington, DC) – Today, Congressman Steve Rothman (D – NJ), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, announced a total of $315,000 in federal funding for energy efficiency and conservation projects: $155,000 for Fort Lee and an additional $160,000 for Teaneck, received through the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the Stimulus Bill).
“This additional Stimulus Bill federal funding will create jobs and allow Fort Lee and Teaneck to provide these important services,” said Rothman. “It will also promote some of the cheapest, cleanest and most reliable energy technologies we have - energy efficiency and conservation - which can be instituted immediately. Local communities can now make strategic investments to help meet their short- and long-term clean energy and climate goals.”
The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program, funded by the Stimulus Bill, will support energy audits and energy efficiency retrofits in residential and commercial buildings, the development and implementation of advanced building codes and inspections, and the creation of financial incentive programs for energy efficiency improvements. Other activities eligible for use of grant funds include transportation programs that conserve energy, projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from landfills, renewable energy installations on government buildings, and energy efficient traffic signals and street lights.
