The RAND corporation presented its conclusions of its study of coastal insurance crisis. The RAND report emphasized that the private sector can't solve this problem and said that some federal reform is needed. Multiple Peril Insurance Act, which Taylor has sponsored and championed, was one of the options that RAND recommended be studied to remedy the problem.

"In my first three years as Chairman of the Seapower and Expeditionary Forces Subcommittee," Taylor continued, "we authorized and appropriated funding for eight ships that will be built at Ingalls.

"Last year we authorized and appropriated $1.9 billion for DDG-113, $872 million for LPD-26, $579 million for advance procurement for DDG-114, $185 million for advance procurement for LPD-27, and $170 million for advance procurement for LHA-7."

Camp Shelby is a military treasure for South Mississippi and our nation. When I first got elected to Congress, however, the fate of the base was far from certain.

At that time, our nation had two types of military bases: Those that grew and those that closed.
One of the first controversial issues I dealt with concerned expanding Camp Shelby into the adjacent DeSoto National Forrest. I was determined to ensure Camp Shelby would grow and worked diligently to add the 32,000 acres of land the base needed. Since that time, Congress has invested quite a bit of money into the facility.

Over the last 10 years alone, I have worked to secure more than $45 million in federal funding, which has turned Camp Shelby from an underutilized military training facility to one of the nation's premier training bases for National Guard troops deploying to the Middle East.

Gulfport, Miss.. – Captain Angela Cyrus, a Mississippi native, will represent the U.S. Naval Academy at Congressman Gene Taylor's 19th Annual Academy Day Seminar which will be held at the University of Southern Mississippi Student Union on October 16th from 8 a.m. to noon.

Captain Cyrus is the Director of Admissions for the U.S. Naval Academy. Her father is from Hattiesburg, and her mother is from columbus, Miss. Captain Cyrus graduated from Mississippi State University where she earned her undergraduate degree in computer science, earned her masters in Information Management Systems from the Naval Postgraduate School, and her Ph.D. In Public Administration from Old Dominion University.

Congressman Taylor is happy to welcome home Captain Cyrus for his annual event which provides young people in South Mississippi, who are interested in attending one of the five U. S. Service Academies a chance to learn about valuable scholarships and career opportunities available to them.

"I am honored to host this annual event where our district's young people can learn how they can continue Mississippi's proud history of service to their nation." Taylor said. "This year, we have expanded our invitation to South Mississippi community colleges. It is a great opportunity for community college students willing to enroll in one of the Academies or to participate in one of the ROTC programs in exchange for the privilege of serving the nation as a military officer when they complete their education."

WAYNESBORO — U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor (D-Miss.) toured the Sunbeam plant in Waynesboro Tuesday as he counts down to a Nov. 2 showdown with Republican challenger Steven Palazzo.

It was Taylor's first visit to the plant since he helped the company, which is owned by Jarden Consumer Solutions, petition the International Trade Commission (ITC) and U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) to investigate illegal "dumping" by China.

The Waynesboro facility, which has served the Pine Belt for 51 years, manufactures and ships woven electric blankets and box fans.

Last year, Taylor along with U.S. Senators Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) showed their support for the company, which claimed China was selling the imported woven electric blankets (WEBs) at less than fair value.

This past June, Taylor's office also testified at the preliminary hearing supporting the U.S. WEB industry. The subsequent 6-0 ruling by the ITC found Jarden was being harmed by China's dumped imports.

The DOC then levied a minimum of 93 percent anti-dumping duty on imported WEBs from China, leveling the playing field for the WEBs manufactured in Waynesboro.

After touring the nearly 900,000-square-foot facility, Taylor spoke before a large group of employees in a town hall setting.
