(Washington, D.C.) - The Dixon School is getting a new roof, thanks to a grant announced today by Senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester.
The school will replace the roof and insulate the main building and the gymnasium. The school, which was built in 1918, also houses the community's library.
"Our children deserve to learn in an safe environment and replacing the roof of this school will ensure that not only is the roof safe, it will also improve energy efficiency for the district," Baucus said. "This is a solid investment that will serve the Dixon community well for generations to come."
"A school roof is basic part of our infrastructure that needs to be maintained and occasionally replaced in order to protect the students while they are learning," Tester said. "This is a win-win in my book because not only will this grant improve the school building, it will put folks to work in the process."
Dixon School serves 70 students from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade.
The $71,491 grant comes from USDA's Rural Development program.
