CONGRESSMAN BOUCHER ANNOUNCES $164,897 FOR PULASKI COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Federal Funds Will Improve Student Safety by Developing Emergency Management Plan

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Representative Rick Boucher announced today that, at his urging, the U.S. Department of Education, through its Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools program, is providing a federal grant of $164,897 to Pulaski County Public Schools for the development of a new emergency plan.

With the federal funding I am announcing today, a comprehensive response to emergencies occurring in Pulaski County Public Schools will be developed. As part of the project, a Community Emergency Response Team, including local health professionals and first responders as well as public school and County officials, will be trained to respond quickly and efficiently in the event of an emergency that threatens the safety of students and faculty in the school system,” Boucher said.

With the benefit of the federal funds, Pulaski County Public Schools will develop and implement a sustainable, all-hazards emergency preparedness plan according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Incident Management System. As part of the project, local community members, including health professionals and first responders, will be trained to form a Community Emergency Response Team, building capacity for emergency management for the broader community as well as in the school systems.

I am pleased that the U.S. Department of Education has allocated federal funding to help the Pulaski County Public School system enhance the safety of Pulaski County students while in school,” Boucher said.
