BOUCHER SECURES FEDERAL FUNDING FOR CLINTWOOD VOLUNTER FIRE DEPARTMENT

$29,906 Federal Grant Will Enable Purchase of New Equipment

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Representative Rick Boucher announced today that, at his urging, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, through its Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, is providing a federal grant in the amount of $29,906 to the Clintwood Volunteer Fire Department for the purchase of new safety equipment, including a hose washer, drying cabinet, turntable and hose rack.

“This provision of federal funding will enable the purchase of new equipment for the Clintwood Volunteer Fire Department, which will provide an added measure of safety for Department members as they respond to emergencies in Dickenson County,” Boucher said.

With the benefit of the federal funds, the Clintwood Volunteer Fire Department will purchase a hose washer, drying cabinet, hose turntable and hose storage unit. These items will enable the Department to extend the life of the hoses used to fight fires by safely removing toxic chemicals which build up on the hose during fires and enabling the hoses to be dried and stored properly. In addition to drying fire hose, the drying cabinet will also safely dry turnout gear.

The Clintwood Volunteer Fire Department provides fire protection to the Town of Clintwood and the surrounding areas in Dickenson County. The Department has 30 members, all of whom serve on a voluntary basis.

"I am pleased that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has provided this funding to the Clintwood Volunteer Fire Department. It is important to ensure that our fire and rescue personnel have access to the best equipment and today’s announcement will help further this goal," Boucher concluded.
