BOUCHER SECURES FEDERAL FUNDING FOR PULASKI FIRE DEPARTMENT

$33,440 Federal Grant Will Enable Purchase of New Safety Equipment for Fire Department

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Representative Rick Boucher announced today that, at his urging, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, through its Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, is providing a federal grant in the amount of $33,440 to the Pulaski Fire Department for the purchase of new safety equipment for its fire station.

“This provision of federal funding will enable the Pulaski Fire Department to purchase of equipment that will improve safety at its fire station,” Boucher said.

With the benefit of the federal funds, the Pulaski Fire Department will purchase four exhaust systems. The new systems ensure that fumes from the Department’s fire trucks and other chemicals do not collect in the fire station, posing a health threat to Department members at the station. Currently, the Department does not have exhaust systems.

The Pulaski Fire Department provides fire protection to the Town of Pulaski and the surrounding areas of Pulaski County. The Department has 32 members, many of whom serve on a voluntary basis.

"I am pleased that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has provided this funding to the Pulaski Fire Department. It is important to ensure that our fire and rescue personnel have access to the best equipment and today’s announcement will help further this goal," Boucher concluded.
