CONGRESSMAN BOUCHER ANNOUNCES $50,000 FOR THE CITY OF GALAX

Federal Grant Will Be Used to Outfit the City’s New Fire Truck

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Representative Rick Boucher announced today that, at his urging, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, through its Rural Development Agency, is providing a federal grant in the amount of $50,000 to the City of Galax to fully equip the City’s new fire truck for the Galax Volunteer Fire Department.

“The federal funds which I am announcing today will enable the Galax Volunteer Fire Department to outfit the City’s new fire truck with state-of-the-art safety equipment, which will offer the Department’s members an added measure of safety as they respond to emergencies in Galax,” Boucher said.

With the benefit of the federal funds, the City of Galax will equip the Galax Volunteer Fire Department’s recently purchased fire truck with 1,600 feet of water hose and four nozzles. Additionally, Positive Pressure Ventilation Fans will be installed, which remove smoke and hazardous gasses. Two thermal imaging cameras, four self-contained breathing apparatus units  and rope rescue equipment will also be purchased for the truck.

The Galax Volunteer Fire Department provides fire protection to the City of Galax and the surrounding areas of Carroll and Grayson County. The Department is made up of 42 members, all of whom serve on a voluntary basis.

I am pleased that the Rural Development Agency is providing federal funding to assist the Galax Volunteer Fire Department in outfitting its new fire truck with state-of-the-art safety equipment. It is important to ensure the safety of our fire and rescue personnel by providing the best equipment possible. Today’s announcement of federal funding to purchase a new fire truck for the Galax Volunteer Fire Department is a necessary step in protecting the people who protect us," Boucher said.
