BOUCHER INTRODUCES RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING RADFORD UNIVERSITY ON ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY

(Washington, D.C.) –U.S. Representative Rick Boucher has introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives a resolution congratulating Radford University on the 100th anniversary of the signing of its charter. The resolution is cosponsored by Boucher’s Virginia colleagues Rep. Frank Wolf, Rep. Jim Moran, Rep. Randy Forbes, Rep. Bobby Scott, Rep. Tom Perriello and Rep. Rob Whitman. U.S. Senator Jim Webb introduced a companion measure in the U.S. Senate.

“For a century, Radford University has been providing Southwest Virginia students with an outstanding education, and the University deserves congratulations for this achievement. In that century, nearly 70,000 students have received a Radford education, many of whom have gone on to become our region’s leaders in business, education, health care, the arts and other areas,Boucher.

Radford University was chartered on March 10, 1910 as the State Normal and Industrial School for Women at Radford with the mission of preparing teachers, and it was renamed in 1924 as Radford State Teachers College, in 1944 as the Women’s Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and in 1964 as Radford College. The school became Radford University in 1979.

Today, Radford University is known for its strong relationships between faculty and students and the commitment to service among its student body. The school offers 153 undergraduate and graduate programs and strong research, service learning and pre-professional programs.

“Radford University is truly an invaluable asset to Southwest Virginia, and I would like to offer my congratulations to the University for its 100 years of service to our region,” Boucher said.
