(Washington) – House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.) today attended the White House reception honoring our nation’s 100th Associate Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan. Ms. Kagan will be formally sworn in by Chief Justice Roberts at a private ceremony on Saturday at the Supreme Court building.
"I am delighted to congratulate Ms. Kagan – soon Justice – on her confirmation to the Supreme Court," Conyers said. "Having three female Supreme Court justices serving at the same time is a great milestone for our country " and yet another big step forward in the long struggle towards true equality for all. Ms. Kagan will enhance the diversity of the Court in other ways – I believe Court and the nation will especially benefit from her wide range of experiences in academia, private practice, and government. Such non-judicial expertise is lacking at the Court right now and, in this regard, Ms. Kagan will be a very welcome addition indeed."
