Carol on the Issues Print

I try very hard to listen to my constituents and to represent them faithfully in the U.S. Congress. That is why I am always happy to hear from you. To find out how I stand on some of the most important issues facing our country, please take a look below, or feel free to contact me .

Economy
We all count on a thriving economy for the good jobs we need to provide for our families and to reach for the American dream.

Veterans
All of us owe a profound debt of gratitude to our veterans and their families, whenever they served, for they have borne the true cost of service. As a former military spouse who is now proud to call my husband "veteran," I know the personal cost is high for all, but incredibly high for some.

Health Care
The need for affordable healthcare is one of the most pressing issues facing our country.  The United States has the best physicians and the best medical technology in the world.  But many of our own citizens can't afford it-including millions of middle-class families.

Education
Investment in education is an investment in the future of American families and the middle class. A good education leads to good jobs and allows people to provide well for their families. Without a strong, accessible, affordable educational system, the middle class cannot stay strong and help our economy grow.

Civil Liberties
The founders of our country fought to create a nation "conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal."

Afghanistan
On September 11, 2001, the United States was attacked by members of Al Qaeda, a stateless band of lethally dangerous, well-financed religious fanatics and terrorists.  We lost over 3,000 Americans on that day – one that will forever haunt us.

In order to defend against another attack, we had to apprehend these terrorist criminals and try them for their crimes. In October 2001, the United States attacked Al Qaeda and its supporters in Afghanistan.  This was essential to our national security.  I supported our military effort in Afghanistan against al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden – those who actually attacked our nation – at that time and I still support a limited military engagement there today.

Science & Technology
For almost two centuries, the United States has been a dominant scientific and technological power. Americans invented the light bulb and the television, the telephone and the artificial heart. To be prosperous, our country must continue to be a center of innovation.

You can always feel free to contact my offices if you have any additional questions about my position on any issue.
