Washington, D.C. – Congressman Walt Minnick is inviting residents of Idaho’s First Congressional District to join him the evening of Monday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m. MDT/6:30 p.m. PDT for a “virtual” town hall meeting.
The event brings together thousands of Idaho residents onto one large conference call, where they will be connected with their Congressman to ask questions and hear more about critical issues before the U.S. House of Representatives.
“These ‘virtual’ town hall meetings have been a very useful way to get immediate feedback from my constituents when my work as a Congressman keeps me from being home in Idaho,” Minnick said. “I enjoy the interaction and look forward to speaking with folks on Monday.”
Minnick has hosted two other telephone town hall meetings. Here’s how they work:
- Thousands of constituents are called and asked to stay on the line to join a live teleconference with their Congressman.
- Those who remain on the line will hear Walt and a moderator.
- People who wish to ask questions can press a button on their phone and be connected to a staffer in Washington, D.C., who puts the constituent into a ‘queue’ along with others who have questions.
- The calls last about an hour, and feature information about how to contact Congressional offices, as well as information about votes and lots of questions from callers.
People who do not get the chance to ask a question or who do not want to speak live are given a chance to leave a message at the end of the call, which is returned by a staff member from Minnick’s office.
Those who want to call directly into the teleconference can use this call-in information. Callers must be residents of the First Congressional District. Members of the press are also welcomed to join. The call-in number is 877-229-8493 and the passcode is 14797.
